For personal needs:
New or second clothing in good condition, raincoats & hats, new shoes, boys and girls aged from infant-18 years. (currently a greater need for clothing 6 – 18 years of age) Maximum size Australian ‘M’, towels, sheets, pillow cases. Shampoo, soap, antiseptic soap, talcum powder, toothpaste, soft bristle toothbrushes, nail brushes, hairbrushes, hairclips (for girls) sunblock, spray cologne (for girls) hair gel. Disposable nappies for older children with special needs. Watches, wallets, purses. For health reasons all toiletries must be new.
For babies:
Rattles, teething rings, stimulation toys (eg. mobiles) NEW soft toys, Baby bottles, formula milk powder, baby powder, baby shampoo, baby oil, Curash, baby harnesses for carrying babies on your front, change mats, weighing scales.
For school:
School back packs, Vietnamese story books, calculators, simple English story books with pictures, touch and feel books, exercise books, pencils, colored pencils, blue & red ball point pens, texta colors, crayons, erasers, pencil sharpeners, rulers, child scissors, compasses, water color and acrylic paints, oil pastels and paint brushes, palletes, playdo and plasticine, colored paper for collage, sticky tape, coloring in books, construction materials eg: Lego padded play mats, musical instruments suitable for very young children, musical instruments suitable for older children to take lessons. Educational posters of the world maps, places, people, animals etc. For blind children, Braille frames, Calculation frame for blind students, braille books 7 dictionaries, cause and effect toys
For sport:
Soccer balls, Basketballs, Volleyballs, Volleyball net, table tennis bats, balls and net, exercise mats, caps, sports clothing, soccer boots and running shoes, skipping ropes, tennis racquets, tennis balls, tennis shoes, tennis shorts (ages 7-12), taekwando suits, badminton nets, racquets, shuttlecocks, bathers, thongs, goggles. Due Customs regulations footwear must be new.
For entertainment:
Vietnamese Board Games, Toy cars, building blocks, dolls, Yo Yo’s, Jigsaw puzzles and games, fun stickers, sewing kits, musical instruments, portable mp3/CD players, fancy dress costumes, wrapping paper, face paints, Party supplies ie: balloons, hats, cups & plates, napkins, birthday cards, birthday candles.
For medical needs:
Routine antibiotics, antipyretics and analgesics. (purchase in Vietnam) Dettol, bandaids, cotton wool, antiseptic swabs, bandages (all types), saline, tweezers, eye wash cups, microscopes, stethoscopes and pressure measuring devices, aloe vera gel, aeroguard or Rid, wool or cotton blankets. For the staff:
A4 paper, envelopes, pens, highlighters, solar powered calculators,digital cameras, blank CD-RW’s, USB’s, photograph albums, first aid kits
For cooking:
Hand mixers, food processors, rice cookers, (buy locally in Vietnam due power/socket type) cutlery. Melamine bowls, plates, cups.
For cleaning:
Ajax powder, Mr Sheen, Windex, washing powder, dishwashing liquid, antiseptic, collar spray, scourers, kitchen sponges, mop heads, broom heads, dustpans and broom.
Heavier items such as washing powder, antiseptic can be purchased locally and are usually 40 to 50% cheaper than Australian prices but remains out of reach for many orphanages.
