I visited 6 orphanages (excellent experience) whilst in Vietnam and heard numerous stories of voluteers that had paid an amount of money up front only to be caught out once they arrive. Investigate prior to handing over any money is common sense one would think. Australian Volunteers International are very credible and may be able to help with orphanage information if anyone is unsure.
